DAY 10: *FAVORITE THRILLER/MYSTERY*

As a child, I LOVED The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin.  I thought it was the coolest mystery book ever, and I read it so much that the front cover gave way and torn completely off.

It's been a good couple of years since I last read it, so I'm definitely overdue for a re-read.

The book opens up with a group of 16 random apartment tenants who all come together for the reading of Mr. Samuel W. Westing's $200,000,000 will.  But rather than dole out the money to everyone, Mr. Westing has devised a game for his beneficiaries to play, leaving the winner to inherit all of his fortune and company.  As part of the game, the heirs are divided up into groups of two, and are given $10,000 to try and discover who killed Mr. Samuel W. Westing.  The teams try a various number of methods and ways to discover the truth, and there's plenty of manipulative and gossiping as children are pitted against parents and husbands go against wives.

This mystery "who-dun-it" book consists of riddles, clues and puzzles told in a narrative story, and even offers a chance for the reader to play and discover the truth.  A definite must-read for any mystery lover.
