DAY 2: *FAVORITE BOOK PARENTS*

Surprisingly, this one was a toughie.  I realized that most YA books that I've read don't mention parents, or they mention them only in name, and only once at the beginning of the story.  I really liked Hazel's mom from The Fault In Our Stars by John Green though, and I thought she was as really caring, if not overprotective, mom.  She is a devoted, caring and loving mother who wants the best for her daughter, and would gladly sacrifice her own life for her daughter's sake.

Mrs. Lancaster is the epitome of a helicopter parent, but who can blame her?  With her daughter Hazel dying of cancer, Mrs. Lancaster gives up her job to become a stay-at-home parent to look after and care for Hazel.

What I liked about her was how devoted she was to Hazel, and how much she really loved her daughter and wanted to be there for her always.  She cares about Hazel so much that she does everything she can to help her daughter make the most out of life, and does everything in her power to help make Hazel's life more enjoyable.

"My mom was really into celebration maximization.  IT'S ARBOR DAY! LET'S HUG TREES AND EAT CAKE!  COLUMBUS BROUGHT SMALLPOX TO THE NATIVES: WE SHALL RECALL THE OCCASION WITH A PICNIC!"

Because Hazel's life is so fragile, and can be cut short at anytime, Mrs. Lancaster goes over-the-top with all the celebrations, and will find an excuse to celebrate anything and everything.  She also hides from Hazel the fact that she's attending school to become a social work for fear of not making Hazel her entire life.
